A TOOL FOR A SPECIFIC JOB

Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Convert UTF-8 text to Base64 and back in your browser.

Processed locally in your browser. Maximum 200,000 characters.

What this tool does

Inspect or produce Base64 text safely and quickly.

How to use it

Paste UTF-8 text or Base64 data, select the operation, and press Process. Base64 is encoding, not encryption.

Privacy and limitations

Processing takes place in your browser. Avoid pasting sensitive data into a shared device. Results are not stored by this tool.

Example and interpretation

Encoding “hello” returns “aGVsbG8=”. Switching to Decode and processing that result restores the original text. UTF-8 characters are supported; invalid Base64 or invalid UTF-8 data is reported as an error.

When to use it

Base64 is useful for representing text in systems that expect ASCII characters. It is reversible and does not protect secrets. This utility works with text, not uploaded binary files or encrypted data.

Working with non-ASCII text

Encoding uses UTF-8 bytes, so “café” becomes “Y2Fmw6k=”. Decode that value with the Decode operation to recover the original text; arbitrary binary files and Base64 data that does not decode to valid UTF-8 text are outside this tool’s scope.

Questions about this tool

Does Base64 protect or encrypt my text?

No. Base64 is reversible encoding; anyone with the encoded value can decode it.

Can I decode a Base64 file here?

The tool handles text that decodes to valid UTF-8, not uploaded binary files or arbitrary binary content.
