What gets counted
Paste plain text to see a character count, a whitespace-separated word count and the number of text lines. The character count includes whitespace and line breaks. A line break starts another line, even when it follows the final word.
When to use it
Use this for a quick draft check, caption length or general text inspection. Different editors may define words differently, especially with punctuation and languages that do not separate words with spaces.
How line and word counts behave
A word is a run separated by whitespace, so “one-two” counts as one word and punctuation remains part of a word. Lines are counted from line breaks: text ending with a line break has a final empty line in the count. The character total includes spaces and line breaks.
