Example and interpretation
A cue starts with a sequential number, followed by a line such as “00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,000” and then subtitle text. Separate cues with a blank line. The validator reports the cue number for errors in numbering, timestamps, missing text or overlap.
What it does not check
A valid result means the basic SRT structure and timing checks passed. It does not assess translation accuracy, reading speed, spelling, media synchronization or compatibility with every player.
Fix errors in order
Use the cue number in an error to find the relevant block, correct it, then process the full file again. Cues must be sequential from 1, have a start before their end, contain subtitle text and not overlap the preceding cue.
Questions about this tool
What timestamp format does the validator accept?
Timestamps need hours, two-digit minutes and seconds, and three millisecond digits, for example 00:00:01,250. A comma or period before milliseconds is accepted.
Does a valid result mean the subtitles match the video?
No. It confirms basic cue numbering, timestamp, text and overlap checks; it does not compare subtitle timing with media or assess the wording.
