What gets counted
Paste a valid SRT subtitle. The result includes the number of cues, characters in subtitle text and subtitle text lines. Cue numbers, timestamp lines and newline characters are excluded from the character count.
When to use it
Use the counts as a quick reference while reviewing subtitle length. Different platforms have different reading-speed and line-length standards, so a count alone cannot tell you whether subtitles are comfortable to read.
Reading a sample result
For one cue containing “Hello” on one line, the result is 1 cue, 5 subtitle characters and 1 subtitle line. Spaces and punctuation in cue text count as characters, while line breaks between text lines do not; the input must parse as valid SRT first.
Questions about this tool
Are timestamps included in the character total?
No. It counts subtitle text characters, excluding cue indices, timestamp lines and line breaks between subtitle lines.
Can I count an incomplete SRT excerpt?
Only if the pasted excerpt is valid SRT beginning with cue number 1 and has valid non-overlapping cues. The counter parses the SRT rather than counting arbitrary text.
